  • DROWNING FATALITY. - INQUEST ON LINTON RUNCIMAN.
    VERDICT OF ACCIDENTAL DEATH.
    An inquest on the body of Linton Harry Runciman, a returned soldier, who was accidentally drowned in the Mata river on August 18, was held at Makarika. homestead on Friday last. Mr F W Fraser, acting coroner, conducted the proceedings, the foreman of the jury being Mr Harry Boyce. Evidence was given to the effect that the deceased, in company with Mr. Bagnall, manager of Horehore station, was returning home on August 18, when, at about 4.30 p.m., they arrived at the river ford near the old suspension bridge, Horehore station. Mr Bagnall first entered the river, and was immediately swept down stream a distance of some twenty chains. After a. desperate struggle he managed to climb ashore again, on the same side of the river as that from which he had entered. Mr Bagnall, as soon as he got out of the river, set ou
