  • Details of his death from NZ Enquiry Bureau ' I saw him fall in the month of August near Messines, when out on fatigue at midnight digging a trench. A shell came and exploded and he was hit through the neck and chest. I spoke to him but he could not answer. We got him on a stretcher and two men(?) of the 14th Coy-one named Stewart and another whose name I forget - took him to a Dressing Stn. They told me afterwards it was a Rifle Brigade Dressing Station. I know nothing as to Burial.' Reference : Cpl. G. Chandler 8/2309

Rev. S. Parr attended burial. AWMM
