  • Hambling joined the 3 Battalion, Wellington Regiment, 7 Company in July 1917 in preparation for the attack on Basseville. (Church, p.189)

    Hambling survived the Front for two months. He was wounded in action on 3 October during the 3 Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele). He received gunshot wounds to his left leg and thigh and it was necessary for the left leg to be amputated at a base hospital in Rouen. (Church, p.189)

    Arrived at No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst on 5 December 1917, his health did not improve. Died of his wounds in February. AWMM
