  • Sadly we as a family did not make a written record of our grand-father and his contributions: soldier, father, grand-father, special story-teller, poet, farmer, auctioneer, and many other parts that I do not recall. He died when I was (about) 10 years old. At that time he lived with my grand-mother Lucy May (nee Corry - from Takapuna), at a home which was originally 49 Hoopers Lane, Hamilton (subsequently purchased by Blackwood and Janet Paul and ultimately became the Anglican' Bishop's Residence - "Bishop's Court" and (with no changes of address) became (I think) 130 Cobham Drive, Hamilton. He was survived by his two daughters - my mother: Margaret "Peg" McNicol and her younger sister, Mary McNicol, and my four siblings - Anne (1948), (now Anne Mead, Jane (1950) - now Jane Harper and her twin Judith (1950) - now Judith Fawdray, me - Susan (1952), and the youngest - Margot (1960).
