  • Disembarked Suez, 12 February 1916.
    Admitted to NZ General Hospital, Cairo, 29 February 1916 (influenza); transferred to Lady Godley's Home, Zeitoun, 22 March 1916 (tonsillitis); discharged to NZ Base Depot, Ghezireh, 31 March 1916; joined 2nd Bn, Auckland Infantry Regiment, Moascar, 7 April 1916.
    Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 8 April 1916.
    Attached to No 2 Company, NZ Machine Gun Corps, 1 June 1916; transferred to NZ Machine Gun Corps, 15 July 1916, and posted to No 2 Company.
    Admitted No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, 8 September 1916 (boils, left forearm), and transferred same day to Corps Rest Station; rejoined unit, 24 September 1916.
    Found guilty, 6 February 1917, of neglect of duty, when on sentry duty failing to salute officers: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2.
    Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 24 March 1917 (diarrhoea); rejoined unit, 2 April 1917.
    Appointed Lance Corporal, 20 June 1917; Temporary Corporal, 5 July 1917.
    Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 30 August 1917 (sprained ankle: injury did not occur in performance of military duty; soldier not to blame), and relinquished appointment of Temporary Corporal; rejoined unit, 4 September 1917.
    Appointed Temporary Corporal, 4 September 1917.
    On leave to United Kingdom, 12 September 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 24 September 1917.
    Wounded in action, 4 October 1917 (shrapnel wound, face, abrasions), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance; rejoined unit, 10 October 1917.
    Appointed Temporary Corporal, 10 October 1917.
    Wounded in action (second occasion), 21 October 1917 (gun shot wound, neck, and left thigh), and admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance (and relinquished appointment of Temporary Corporal); transferred same day to 44th Casualty Clearing Station; to No 11 (Harvard, USA) General Hospital, 26 October 1917; to No 18 (Chicago, USA) General Hospital, Camiers, 1 November 1917. Placed on 'dangerously ill' list, 2 November 1917.
    Died of wounds, 6 November 1917.
