  • As Anzac Day rolls around again here in New Zealand - just wanted to say I am extremely grateful that this humble Man - my Grandfather - was there on behalf of us all - together with other members of the New Zealand Forces to stand up for what was right in the World. Sadly I never got to know him directly but he lives on through his descendants. We remember him not only Anzac Day - but at other times also. Rest in Peace.

  • I never had the honor to know my Grandfather - he did return from the war but died while still relatively young. He is buried in the Soldier's part of the Cemetery here in Auckland at Waikuemete. I visit his resting place each Anzac Day and have great respect for what he did for us all. He met my Grandmother apparently while recovering from injuries in a hospital in England. Romance followed and they received permission to marry in 1917 during the war. At the end of the year I believe they came home to New Zealand on one of the troop ships, the "Ruapehu". What a journey that must have been. Sadly his young bride never got 'home' to England again and never saw her family again. Harold and his bride went on to have two beautiful daughters - one of them was my Mum - Joyce.
