  • I remember my mother relating the story of the day her brother Clarry as she called him left to go overseas. 'Don't worry my princess' she would tell me he said, 'I'm only going away for a little while, I'll be home soon.' But then she would say, often with a tear in her eye, 'I never saw him again. He never did come home'. The same photo of "Clarry" as that in the image above took pride of place on the dresser in our sitting room when I was a boy. I would sneak in from time to time to admire all the family prized possessions including this photo. Because of all the above I feel I have some small personal connection to my uncle Clarry. I plan to be at the The Messines Ridge Memorial on the 100th anniversary of his death on 31 July this year to pay a small tribute to him and from his beloved sister, my mother. We remain grateful for your sacrifice uncle Clarry, even after all these years.

  • Far away from all who loved you, you gave your life for us. In loving memory of Uncle Clarry, from your niece Nancy and her children Terissa, Chris and Neil.
