  • Dick Happy was the son of John Happy and the late Mihi Peka Matenga Nga te Rukawa.

    Disembarked from HMT 'Waitamata' at Suez, Egypt, 26 October 1915.
    Posted to Auckland Infantry Bn, Moascar, 19 January 1916.
    Embarked with Pioneer Bn, Port Said, and proceeded overseas to France, 9 April 1916.
    Admitted to No 14 Stationary Hospital, Boulogne, 25 June 1916 (periostitis); listed as 'dangerously ill', No 32 Australian Hospital, Wimereux, 4 July 1916 (superlative periostitis); 'seriously ill', 3 September 1916 (osteomyelitis right tibia, amputated; septic arthritis, left hip); 'dangerously ill', 10 September 1916.
    Died of septicaemia, No 32 Australian Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, 17 December 1916.

    Commemorated on the Arawa Tribal Roll of Honour, Rotorua. Parents: John Happy and the late Mihi Peka Matenga Nga te Rukawa AWMM
