    Embarked Alexandria for France, 7 April 1916.
    Admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 11 December 1916, while on leave; discharged to Assistant Provost Marshal, London, 5 April 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 15 April 1917.
    Wounded in action, 15 June 1917 (gun shot wound, left arm: compound fracture), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred same day to No 2 Australian Casualty Clearing Station; to 83 General Hospital, Boulogne; to England, 20 June 1917, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames; discharged to duty, 25 July 1917.
    Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal.
    Appointed Temporary Sergeant, 9 March 1918; Sergeant, 29 July 1918.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Southampton on board HT 'Willochra', 8 March 1919; discharged, 13 May 1919.
    Total war service: 3 years 214 days (of which 3 years 70 days were abroad) AWMM
