Citation for M.C.: Lieutenant, 4th Batt., New Zealand Rifle Brigade M.C.: London Gazette 14 November 1916, p11082 For conspicuous gallantry in action. He fought his machine- gun with great courage and determination, materially assisting in recapturing a trench. Later, although wounded, he continued to fight his gun. Bar M.C.: Captain, 1st Batt., New Zealand Rifle Brigade MC*: London Gazette 16 September 1918, p10912, Rec No 2149 For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After a heavy preliminary bombardment the enemy advanced to deliver a serious attack. This officer, who was in command of his company on the right flank, grasping the situation with prompt initiative, pushed forward and forestalled the enemy, breaking up the attack before it fell upon the advanced posts. The ability and rapidity with which the plan was conceived Captain Saxon showed a very fine example of courage and coolness to his men, personally supervising under heavy fire all the dispositions necessary.
