    Private John Albert Harp, of Rotorua, killed in the Dardanelles, was born close to Whangarei nearly 35 years ago. Most of his school life was spent at the Devonport school. He was a keen sportsman, especially as a shot, a yachtsman, a bandsman, a cyclist, a footballer, and a hockey player. He was the youngest son of Mr. J. G. Harp, and followed the occupation of painter and signwriter in Rotorua, where he had been settled for some 10 or 12 years. He leaves a widow. (Auckland Weekly News, 1 July 1915, p. 21) AWMM
