  • Remembering my great-grandfather Stephen Harris, especially today 31 July 2017, one hundred years since the first day of the battle at Passendale. He fought on the Western Front during the same time that this battle lasted until 10 November. He was part of the first battalion of Canterbury Infantry Regiment of which my daughter Sonja has been researching their movements. He was still there in the December when he was overcome with Mustard Gas and taken to Hospital back in England in January and died weeks later on 6 February 1918.

I was very pleased to have visited his grave site at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey last year, while travelling England with my husband.

    Report
  • In remembrance of my great great grandfather, Stephen Harris, whose story I have been researching 100 years on from when he left New Zealand to come and fight on the Western Front.
    Public - Sonja - Direct descendant - 31 July 2017
    Report
  • For my great great grandfather Stephen Harris. With the greatest respect for the sacrifices he made for the sake of others and the sympathy for family not able to bring him home to rest xx
