      On 18 March 1918 whilst in the Ypres area George Haxton suffered from the effects of mustard gas and slight burns. He spent time in hospital and at a convelescent depot. (Church, p.44) AWMM

  • George Haxton was discharged from the NZEF "in consequence of being medically unfit for active service, although fit for employment in civil life." He returned to Wellington in March of 1915. He enlisted for a second time on 19 October 1915, and arrived in Egypt on the Maunganui in Febuary 1916. After transferring to No. 3 Company in March he travelled to France on the Alaunia from Alexandria. (Church, p.44.) AWMM
