  • Douglas Shaw Haynes was the uncle of my grandmother. Both him and his brother William Robert Haynes were spoken about within our household, and we have been collating records to add more information. He was named Douglas after the parish his father Abraham William Haynes was born in (Douglas, Cork) and Shaw is the name of Abraham's brother (Shaw Busteed Haynes). He spent some time with his uncle Shaw in Salford, Manchester UK when he was first despatched overseas, and family letters suggest he followed his older brothers into war to "do the right thing". Thank you to the researchers for adding portraits of the brothers, and for providing such depth of information.
