Alfred, Alexander and William Worner (correct spelling ) were indeed full blood brothers born into a family of nine children in the country town of Geraldine in the South Island of New Zealand. Alfred's father, who was a butcher, died when Alfred the baby of the family was only 2. Alfred went to school in Geraldine with his brothers before at some stage going to live with his uncle in the North Island. All three brothers are recorded with their names spelt correctly ( Worner ) on both the Geraldine school roll of honour and on the Geraldine cenotaph. I have in my keeping the family bible which records the birth dates of the three brothers. I have recently visited Ypres in Belgium and found their names, George and Alexander on the Tyne Cot memorial and Alfred on the Messines Ridge memorial. All the Geraldine members of the Worner family remember with honour their contribution to WW1.

I am the great nephew of Alfred. The recorded notes are correct and authenticated by recent family research. It may be of interest that his mother agreed to allow Alfred to reside with her brother who had a farm in the North Island. the uncle was childless, she was widowed. The family were at the time based in the South Island. Alfred came from a larger family.
