  • Kipa Pou Hemi Whiro aka Skipper Pou Hemi is my Grandfathers brother, I visited him where he is buried in France in 2018. I've been to the place where he was killed on September 10 1916 near Turk Lane in the Somme. My Great Grandfather performed a powhiri for the returning soldiers in 1919 on the main street of Havelock, Sth Island and his son wasn't with them. Must've been the worst feeling ever. RIP my tipuna.

  • We attended the ANZAC service at Torea Bay in the Marlborough Sounds. Skipper Pou Hemi is on the monument there and was remembered. He was also remembered at Havelock and Canvastown services. He is Ngati Kuia. We asked around and have found a picture of him and are looking at where he is on the family tree. We are very proud of him.
