    I would have liked to have known you when I was a child... I knew your brothers, Arthur and Peter, and one of your sisters, Alma. They said you were a good looking, jovial man with a great sense of humour.

    How sad that you were taken at just 28 years old. I still have the photo framed by your mum and dad, Frank and Elizabeth Barber, which stands proudly in out hallway, and inscribed with "Our Boy". They must have been so upset to hear that you had been killed in action, but very proud of you at the same time.

    Men like you paid the ultimate sacrifice so that future generations of New Zealanders could live a quality life. Your sacrifice was not in vane... thank you.
