    • Thomas Fitzsimons was the son of George and Janet Fitzsimons (nee Haining). Born in Scotland. Served in France and Belgium. AWMM
    • Thomas George Fitzimson was born in Scotland on 27th September 1891. Thomas and two of his sisters emigrated to New Zealand in 1910, with his parents, other siblings and niece and nephew following in 1911. The family settled at Ardgowan (near Oamaru).

      Memorial oak trees were planted in Oamaru and Thomas was honoured by a cross bearing his name by an oak tree planted near Ardgowan (where his family lived). The tree was removed when the road was widened. Ardgowan School has a Memorial Grove and he is also listed on the Memorial Board at the Ardgowan Hall, Ardgowan.
