    Proceeded overseas to France, 29 September 1916; taken on strength, No 2 Company, NZ Machine Gun Corps, in the field, 3 October 1916.
    Detached to NZ Wing, II Anzac Reinforcements Cp, 5 June 1917; rejoined unit, 19 June 1917.
    On leave to United Kingdom, 3 November 1917.
    Appointed Lance Corporal, 26 November 1917.
    Wounded in action, Ypres, Belgium, 3 December 1917 (gun shot wound, right elbow, right shoulder), and admitted to 3rd NZ Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 10th Casualty Clearing Station; to 7th General Hospital, St Omer, 4 December 1917; to England, 11 December 1917, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 12 December 1917. Classified unfit by Medical Board, 8 January 1918.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Liverpool on board 'Maunganui', 2 February 1918; discharged (no longer fit for war service due to wounds received in action), 22 December 1918.
