  • I came upon the name of Ralph Hindmarsh while researching - the Hindmarsh family are distant cousins.Ralph must have been almost too old to enlist in 1915. He must have had a strong sense of duty.Sadly he was killed in action in the bloody shambles of the Somme in 1916. Another life cut short and New Zealand could ill afford to lose men of his calibre.
    Rest in peace Ralph - you are remembered.
