  • Embarked Wellington, 29 May 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 27 July 1916; marched in to NZ Reserve Group, Sling Camp, 30 July 1916, and reverted to Private.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 12 August 1916; joined 1st Bn, Otago Infantry Regiment, in the field, 28 August 1916, and posted to 14th Company.
    Found guilty, 14 April 1917, of drunkenness: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 7 days' pay.
    On leave to United Kingdom, 13 September 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 27 September 1917.

    Attached to strength of NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 8 November 1917.
    Accidentally injured (soldier not to blame), 26 November 1917.
    Classified 'C' by Travelling Medical Board, 6 December 1917.
    Marched in to Sling Camp from France, 17 December 1917; marched in to NZ Discharge Depot, Torquay, 28 January 1918.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Liverpool on board HMNZT 'Tahiti', 1 February 1918; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service: varicose veins), 17 April 1918.
    Total war service: 2 years 94 days (of which 1 year 298 days was abroad) AWMM
