  • While researching the Hodgson family - who may be distant cousins - I found the name of George Henry Hodgson 1874-1917 who died of wounds at Passchendaele. My wifes grandfather George Lewis Stewart also died of wounds in the same slaughter. At least they had known graves - unlike the 800 or more New Zealanders who had no known grave. George Hodgson was 43 when he sailed to France as a replacement.He should have been turned down because of his age but probably said he was younger. I wonder if young men today would have the same sense of duty.
    Rest in peace George - you are still remembered.
