  • My late father also Alexander Baird Holmes was named after his namesake. Private AB Holmes was killed in the battle of Somme in WW1 on Oct 1 1916. My father was a 2nd Lieutenant and fought in WW11 in the Pacific & was wounded by the Japanese on the beach at Mono Island in the Solomon Islands.
