Martyn, of Princess Street, Cambridge, New Zealand, Husband of Elsie Martyn.Husband of Elsie Martyn"Whose death occurred under particularly sad circumstances, offered his services to the country in the very early stages of the war, but for certain family reasons was placed on the reserve list. He was eventually called up, and went into camp with the 14th Reinforcements, joining the Wellington Infantry Battalion. His training was practically finished, when he contracted measles, from which he was rapidly recovering when meningitis ensued, proving fatal in a very short time. He came here in 1903, and on leaving, returned to work on the farm at his home near Cambridge, taking up land on his own account a few years later. His body was brought home and laid to rest in the little churchyard at Tamahere. During his short military career he was much beloved by his fellow men."
