  • Holst left for France on 20 March 1918. He marched into camp at Abeele for a brief period before joining the 1 Battalion, 3 New Zealand Rifle Brigade, 'A' Company near Hebuterne on 27 March. He received gunshot wounds to his left leg on 6 April. At then end of the month he was admitted to No.1 NZGH, Brockenhurst. He survived six weeks longer. (Church, p.213) AWMM
