    Proceeded overseas to France, 26 September 1916; joined 1st Bn, Wellington Infantry Regiment, in the field, 12 October 1916.
    Admitted to hospital, 31 December 1916; rejoined unit, 20 January 1917 (no details recorded).
    Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 30 April 1917 (mumps); rejoined Bn, in the field, 29 May 1917.
    Appointed Lance Corporal, 13 September 1917.
    Wounded in action, 4 October 1917 (gun shot wound, neck), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 44th Casualty Clearing Station; to 18th General Hospital, Camiers, 6 October 1917; to England, 11 October 1917, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst, 16 October 1917.Attached to strength of NZ Command Depot, Codford, 16 November 1917; to 3rd (Reserve) Bn, Sling Camp, 26 February 1918.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 8 May 1918; joined Bn, in the field, 12 May 1918. Posted to 11th Company, 20 July 1918.
    Wounded in action (second occasion), 1 September 1918 (gun shot wound, right arm), admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 29th Casualty Clearing Station; to 3rd Australian General Hospital, 2 September 1918; to England, 6 September 1918, and admitted same day to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst. Transferred to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 6 September 1918.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Liverpool on board 'Mauganui', 2 December 918; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service on account of wounds received in action), 11 March 1919.
