  • He was the son of Malcolm John & Beatrice Phoebe MacDONALD (nee Dando), from Whau Valley, Whangarei. His father was born in Nova Scotia and arrived in NZ on the ‘Ellen Lewis’.

    McDONALD, Athol Ashley (Regtl No. 25081, Div. Sigs, WW1). On June 17, 1978, at Auckland Hospital (of 6 Waitemata Rd, Takapuna). Dearly loved husband of the late Flora, loved father of Jean (Mrs Twigden, Nelson), Athol (Nelson), Marie (Mrs Wilson, Christchurch) and Gwen (Mrs Flynn, London), loved father-in-law of John, Aileen and Alec, and loved grandfather of 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A service will be held at St Margarets Presbyterian Church, Lake Rd, Belmont, at 1.30pm tomorrow (Tuesday), to be followed by a private cremation.
