    Writing to a friend in Gisborne by a mail, Priyate J. W. Hudson, of Gisborne (since reported to have been killed in action), Stated that the journey through France was most enjoyable. They were 52 hours in the train and they passed through the finest countrv he had seen. Everything looked at its best and he considered there was nothing to equal it in New Zealand. They saw all kinds of crops, a good many of which he had not seen before. There were no 50 acre crops, everything being planted in strips, viz., a strip of wheat about 30 yards wide, then potatoes and so on. They were changed round each year, and it was probably, the system they had of working the ground that enabled the French people to get such good results.
