Richard Phineas Hudson was born (1860) at Ireland. He would later emigrate to Ceylon, British India, where he became, for 23 years, a tea and coffee plantation owner. Richard, his wife Ellen and son Thomas emigrated to New Zealand in 1908 - where at Motueka, Nelson Region, Richard Hudson became a fruit grower. He entered Parliament, as MP for Motueka, in 1914. In 1930 Richard and his wife Ellen returned to Ceylon. They would later return to New Zealand where Richard Hudson died, in 1953, at Wellington. Thomas Hudson was an Old Boy of Nelson College. He attended Nelson College from 1909 to 1910.
