    • Claude was born the eldest son of John and Mary Powell at Fabians Valley, Wairau on the 3rd of February 1895. He married Miss Nellie Landon Lane in 1930 and had eight children; five girls and four boys. He resided at Ward for the majority of his married life. He died on the 10th June 1950 at the age of 54 years. He was buried at Omaka Cemetery in Blenheim.
