  • Charles was the son of Henry James Barnard and Helena Marian Barnard, of 201, Derwent St., Island Bay, Wellington, New Zealand.

    He enlisted in 1915 and was one of six sons who served.

    He is commemorated on the bell Suvla Bay given by his mother Helena Marian Barnard for the National War Memorial Carillon, Wellington. Brothers Charles Valentine Barnard and Henry Barnard are commemorated on the same bell. AWMM
