    Proceeded overseas to France, 20 October 1916; marched in to NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 20 October 1916.

    Wounded in action, 23 December 1916 (bomb wound, right foot), and admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 26 December 1916; to England, 1 January 1917, and admitted to No 1 NZ General Hospital, Brockenhurst.
    Transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 30 January 1917.
    Detailed 'On Command' at NZ Convalescent Hospital, 24 April 1917; appointed Temporary Lance Corporal while employed at Hornchurch. 11 August 1917.
    Relinquished temporary appointment, and detached to NZ Command Depot, Codford, 2 February 1918.
    Proceeded overseas to France, 15 May 1918; transferred to A Company, 3rd Bn, NZ Rifle Brigade, in the field, 13 August 1918.
    Detached to United Kingdom from Germany, 11 February 1919.
