  • Born in Mangatoki, 1880 to Jane and Thomas. He had a number of siblings: William b1864/1868, Margaret Jane Rogers b1872, Elenor Mary known as Ellen Oakes b1877, Joseph Edward b1878, Henry Ernest b1881/1884. He was a cheese maker by profession, in Stratford, before he enlisted. He was wounded in August 1918.
In his mid-late twenties he was based in Kaiapoi. He married late in life to May Tiney, 1934. Her family was from Peel Forest, Canterbury. May was only 30 and passed away less than a year into their marriage in 1935, so they did not have had children.
In 1928, May had an illegitimate daughter, Marie Josephine Tiney, born in Christchurch. In 1932 Marie was adopted and became Gertrude Taylor, later Bowring. Gertrude died in 1984.
Isaac had spent since the mid-late 1920s in the Hurunui district. At the time of May’s death they were in Rangiora and he saw out his days in the area.
