Sergeant Hutcheon was educated at St. John’s College, and prior to enlistment was on the staff of the Union Bank. He was a member of the College Rifles, and at the outbreak of the war went as a signaller to Samoa. He remained there for 10 months, and upon his return enlisted in the tenth reinforcement.
