  • Robert Irving was the son of Ellen Irving, of Aokautere, Palmerston North, New Zealand, and the late George Irving, of Glasgow, Scotland.
    Disembarked Suez, 10 April 1916.
    Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, France, 10 May 1916; marched into NZ Base Depot, Etaples, 20 May 1916.
    Detached to 2nd Anzac Entrenching Bn, 29 July 1916.
    Wounded in action, 28 March 1917 (gun shot wound, shoulder, hip, thigh, leg and arm: 'dangerously wounded'), and admitted to No 3 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred same day to 1st North Midlands Casualty Clearing Station.
