  • Wounded in action, France, 22 June 1917 (shrapnel wound, chest, left arm: slight); admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames, 25 June 1917; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 28 June 1917; discharged on furlough, 15 August 1917, to report, 30 August 1917.
    Classified 'Unfit' and placed on NZ Roll, 10 September 1917.
    Marched in to NZ Discharge Depot, Torquay, 17 September 1917.
    Commenced return to New Zealand from Liverpool on board HMNZT 'Ruahine', 16 November 1917; discharged (no longer physically fit for War Service, in consequence of being overage), 3 February 1918.
    War service: 1 year 262 days (of which 1 year 140 days were abroad)
