  • Obituary
    A VICTIM OF THE WAR.
    MR. KINLOCH FOUND SHOT.
The death has occurred under tragic circumstances of Mr. Richard Kinloch, jun., son of Mr. Richard Kinloch, veterinary surgeon. The late Mr. Kinloch resided with his parents at Huapai, and had been in the habit of going out with his gun rabbit shooting. On Monday afternoon he did this, as usual, but, failing to return, a search was made and his body was found with a gun containing a discharged cartridge near it. An inquest was held by Mr. Fosbrook, J.P., of Helensville, when a verdict was returned to the effect that deceased died from a gunshot wound, self inflicted while of unsound mind.

The deceased was educated at the Auckland Grammar School, obtaining a scholarship to the university, where he had a successful career, gaining several scholarships. He had nearly finished his law course when he joined one of the reinforcements, and saw four years' active service, during which he was gassed. Mr. Kinloch was anticipating a resumption of his duties as a master at the Grammar School, but was advised to take up an outdoor life for a time and work on the land until his health had been fully restored.
