    • Son of John Ferguson Jardine and Catherine Jardine, of Napier.

"Was killed at the battle of the Somme on September 26th, 1916. His battery, the 12th N.Z.F.A., was in action about 800 yards in front of Delville Wood, and in a valley popularly known as ‘Death Valley,’ just behind the rise on which was situated the switch trench. He was in his dug-out—a mere rainproof shelter—and with the other occupant was getting ready for breakfast, when it was completely destroyed by an eight inch shell. He had previously seen service with the Otago Mounted Rifles in Egypt and Gallipoli." (In Memoriam, 1914-1918 [Wanganui Collegiate School])

Commonwealth War Graves Commission gives his age at death as 33 years. AWMM
