    • In the Tolaga Bay Cemetery, Gisborne there is a Tombstone with the following details:
(Aperama Puhipuhi) 1st NZEF 20762, Pte P. PUHIPUHI, Maori Pioneer Battn, died 26.10.1963 aged 72 years.
Whether this is Pera Hautapu - I do not know - but I feel quite strongly that it is, as there is not a Aperama Puhipuhi registered in the NZ Maori Pioneer Battalion Public - Lorraine M - Researcher - 4 March 2016 - Gisborne's Cemetery Records for the Tolaga Bay Cemetery
    • TeAotiraroa (Reremoana) Hautapu married Wi Keepa Puhipuhi. The children were Aperahama Puhipuhi and his sister Ngawini Puhipuhi. Uncle Bell married Poa Perston, They had a child that passed away and they adopted Rawiri TeWaimotu Collier/PuhiPuhi. Deceased, no issue. Uncle Bell Joined the Maori Pioneer Battalion under his mothers surname Pera Hautapu His grandfather was Haare tainamate Hautapu, His Grandmother was Oriwia Ringatumutu Hautapu (nee Wharehinahina). It is said he sailed 23rd Sept. 1916, wounded 21st June 1917, and returned home 5th April 1919 on the ship Westmoreland.
It is said he joined the 28th Maori Battalion under the name Aperahama Puhipuhi Walker and was invalided home. I first saw the name P Hautapu, on the roll of honor in the Maori church in Tikitiki. I asked my father was this was and the above is what he told me.
