      He led his platoon in the attack against strong opposition and heavy shell fire, capturing his objective. During the consolidation his men were exposed to heavy fire from two machine guns. Taking two men with him, he worked round to a flank, killed the gunners and captured the guns setting a splendid example to his men. London Gazette. AWMM
