OBITUARY: MR ERNEST ARMSTRONG

The sudden death of Mr Ernest Armstrong at Whakatane on Saturday comes as a shock and his is a loss which will be regretted by the whole district. Coming to Whakatane in 1920 after returning from the 1914-18 war, the late Mr Armstrong went into practice in the town as a solicitor with the firm of Urquhart and Roe. He retired several years ago, and has since represented a life assurance office here. He was actively associated with the Whakatane Tennis Club and was at one stage one of the club’s top players. Mr Armstrong was 55. His good nature, ready wit and musical ability always made him a popular figure socially. The funeral leaves Mr Jarrett’s premises, Commerce Street, at 2 p.m. today.
