  • One of the 50 Tuhoe soldiers who fought in WW1. Ngāi Turanga. Pvt. MM, World War 1, 1914-1918, sn.20860, Māori Contingent, embarked on Tahiti 15-Nov-1916, for Devonport, England. Bushfeller, next of kin - Mrs Rehia Te Amo (mother) Ruatoki; b. 1893 (month and day not known) in Maungapohatu, aged 20 when he enlisted in 1916, dcd. 04-Sep-1960 age 70Y in Ruatoki (Charles Timutimu Research Project).

    Urewera Lands Consolidation Scheme (Report of Commissioners as to position of). Appendix to the Journals of the House of Representatives, 1924 Session I, G-07."At a sitting of the Commission at Ruatoki in April last it was stated that a number of the Urewera Natives sold their lands prior to enlisting for the war; those who returned now find themselves landless, and they ask that the Crown give them land so that they may not be a burden on the members of their families." Te Amo was listed as one of these men. AWMM
