    One of the 50 Tuhoe soldiers who fought in WW1. Ngāti Tawhaki. aka Hihi Wimutu and Nini Wi Mutu; Pvt. World War 1, 1914-1918, sn. 20861, 10th Reinforcements, Māori Contingent, embarked 15-Nov-1916 for Devonport England. Campaigns: Western European 1917-1919; Military Awards, British War Medal (1914-1920), Victory Medal. Bushman, next of kin - Mrs Hina Te Whare Mutu (mother); b. 22-May-1896 Waimana, aged 21 when he enlisted in 1916, dcd. 31-Mar-1958 age 62 (Charles Timutimu Research Project).

    Urewera Lands Consolidation Scheme (Report of Commissioners as to position of). Appendix to the Journals of the House of Representatives, 1924 Session I, G-07."At a sitting of the Commission at Ruatoki in April last it was stated that a number of the Urewera Natives sold their lands prior to enlisting for the war; those who returned now find themselves landless, and they ask that the Crown give them land so that they may not be a burden on the members of their families." Wimutu was listed as one of these men. AWMM
