    VETERAN OF TWO WARS - MR. WILLIAM ELLIOTT DEATH FOLLOWS ACCIDENT The death occurred recently as the result of an accident at Kihikihi of Mr. William Elliot, late of the East Coast & Gisborne.
    The late Mr. Elliot was born in H.B. in 1881 & was educated in H.B. & Rotomo. He served in the NZ Forces during the South African War, being a trooper in the 7th Cngt After the Boer War he came to the East Coast & was for some years at Tauwhareparae, Mangatokerau and Uawa In 1911 he married Patricia Dobson, Tolaga Bay.   • Mr Elliot saw active service again during the Great War, leaving NZ with the 16th Rfmts, & served throughout the Palestine campaign, entering Jerusalem with Field Marshal Viscount Allenby’s forces in 1918
    After the war he returned to Gisborne & for a number of years was connected with various motor services, being among the number who may be regarded as pioneers of motor transport in the district. For a time he was in partnership with Mr W Whitfield in running the once wellknown Whitfield’s Motor Service. During this time he enjoyed the reputation of being a most capable, courteous and efficient driver.
    Of late years Mr. Elliot has been living in the Otorohanga district. He is survived by his wife & one son, Mi-. C. W. Elliot, Gisborne
