  • Worked the gum fields, then moved to farm in Maropiu in 1911.

    Three brothers served in WWI, Richard Askew Hume (6/3356) and Charles Joseph Hume (3/2619) James Alison Hume (6/3355)

    Keen rugby player, representative for Northern Wairoa, and coach Kaihu Seniors.

    Very active in RSA during WW2, and together with his wife Gwen was very hard working for the Patriotic Fund efforts.

    After his death the family received a letter from J.H. Brown " On October 4th 1917, your father was one of the stretcher bearer who carried me out after I was wounded. Will you please accept my very real sympathy at the loss of such a fine man and Father". AWMM
