    • Clement Knight was the son of Frederick Clement and Lillian Knight, of 81 Manukau Rd., Parnell, Auckland, New Zealand. AWMM
    • Clem was the only son. I believe he had a sister but am unable to confirm this. He was engaged to my grandmother Dorice Mildred Rose Clark of Whakahara, Mt Eden, Auckland. Sadly he was killed in action. He was great friends with two of her brothers and they often met at the front. They were also both killed - Clem and her remaining brother within days of each other. After my grandmother died in 1974 we found a small bundle wrapped in a handkerchief amongst her personal possessions which among other things, contained a letter from his parents to her written after his death and his memorial card with his photo. Although she was married for 51 years, she never forgot him and occasionally talked of him. Growing up we were all aware she had lost the great love of her life. • My family have some of Fred's letters from the war. At some stage his family (a sister, I think) married and moved to Dargaville and became one of my ancestors. Her name was Florence Lillian, I believe, and her married surname was Groome.
