    • Harry Bateman was the son of Thomas and Sarah Bateman, of Manakau Road, Epsom, Auckland. AWMM
    • "Since our last meeting, he adds, many of our members have been in the danger zone, and many of the sons of our Empire have fallen. We regret to report that two of our members, Messrs H. O. Bateman and A. A. Charleston, have been killed in action, having responded to their country's call and leaving all they loved to go and fight for the cause of right. Though they sleep in a far-off land, away from kith and kin, we will cherish their memory as men who made the great sacrifice. To their sorrowing parents and relatives we extend our heartfelt sympathy" : Railway Review 17 November 1916; Page 508.
