Son of Herbert Douglas and Ellen Knight, of Mokorua.

Knight was intially in the First Reserves but was called up for duty.

He died in a battle at Belle Spur near Baupaume, France.

"Left New Zealand on October 13th, 1917. Landing in France during the following March, he joined up with a Lewis gun section, and was killed on September 1st, 1918. He was attached to the 6th Hauraki Coy., Auckland Regiment, with whom he appears to have been a general favourite, due very largely to his supreme unselfishness. His comrades wrote describing his thoroughness in all things, even to the digging of a trench another few inches for additional safety. After capturing certain German machine guns, when volunteers were called for to work them, he was the only man in the team who had taken the trouble to master them at the gunnery school.
