    • Embarked Wellington, 19 January 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 28 March 1917, and marched in to Sling Camp.
      Marched out to Machine Gun Depot, Grantham, 2 May 1917.
      Proceeded overseas to France, 20 June 1917; posted to strength, No 1 Company, NZ Machine Gun Corps, in the field, 19 August 1917.
      Admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance, 13 December 1917 (pyrexia, unknown origin), and transferred same day to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance (Divisional Rest Station); to 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 14 December 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 1 January 1918.
      Wounded in action, 30 March 1918 (gun shot, back, right side), and admitted to No 1 NZ Field Ambulance; transferred to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, Doullens, 31 March 1918; to 56th General Hospital, Etaples, 31 March 1918; to England, 4 April 1918, and admitted to No 2 NZ General Hospital, Walton-on-Thames; transferred to NZ Convalescent Hospital, Hornchurch, 14 September 1918.
      Commenced return to New Zealand from Plymouth on board HT 'Briton', 24 December 1918; discharged (medically unfit: no longer physically for for War Service on acount of wounds received in action), 26 February 1919.
      War service: 2 years 189 days (of which 2 years 11 days were abroad) AWMM
