    Member of the famous All Black team known as "The Invincibles". The team was unbeaten on the 1924-25 tour of Britain, Ireland, France and North America.

    Maurice Brownlie is acknowledged as one of the greatest rugby players ever to have represented New Zealand.

    Three brothers were All Blacks: Cyril James Brownlie (9/2256), Maurice Brownlie (30422) and Jack Brownlie.

    Brownlie was a member of The Invincibles during their European tour of 1924–25 gave service during both world wars. From 1915 to 1919 he served in the New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade, including two and a half years in the Middle East, and reached the rank of corporal.
